Callahan Boy Scout Troop 351 welcomes Elijah Skidmore, Emmet Bolton, EJ Strine, Luke Wilson and Nolan Depontes May 19at Callahan Methodist Church. The scouts completed the requirements to earn the rank of Arrow of Light and crossed over from Cub Scout Pack 351.

Loyal Flash retires

MIKE THORN NCR Reporter   Hilda Loyd, 84, retired May 15 after serving at Hilliard Middle-Senior High School since 1984.  Through the span of four decades, she served in various capacities, including career coach and cheerleading coach.

Michael Thorn NCR Reporter   Justin Bennett medaled in the javelin throw at the state track and field meet Saturday.  The Hilliard Middle-Senior High School sophomore placed eighth in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 1A state track and field meet. He threw it 47.54 meters.

Anna Newhoff NCR Reporter   “Rally for Randall” raises funds for a 13-year-old boy who is battling advanced stage liver disease. Since birth, Jacksonville’s Randall Green has dealt with a primary immune deficiency called X-linked agammaglobulinemia.

Girl Scouts aid shelter animals

Callahan Girl Scout Troop 63013 donates $900 in food and toys to Nassau County Animal Services. The scouts utilized the money they raised selling cookies to visit a water park and to purchase the items at Tractor Supply Company. The store then matched their purchase with 15 bags of food.

NCFR Station 10 officially open

Ashley Chandler Community Newspapers, Inc.   Nassau County Fire Rescue Station 10 officially opened May 7.To honor the opening, the county held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the station, located at 75822 Edwards Road, Yulee.The station is in District 5, Commissioner Klynt Farmer’s district.

Missions team visits Ecuador

The Anchor Church Missions Team shares the Word via Vacation Bible School while also helping to landscape, paint and assist in a variety of ways in Ecuador. Two water filtration systems were installed in the community and a women’s night was also held during the weeklong trip, which began April 26.
