Callahan’s Winn-Dixie shoppers can keep their red carts and familiar aisles — at least until further notice.
In March 2024, Southeastern Grocers Inc., parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket was officially bought by Aldi U.S. SEG operated nearly 400 Winn-Dixie and Harvey locations. A new Southeastern Grocers, LLC., bought back 170 locations in February, but has not disclosed which stores that include.
Grocery stores in Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida are included in the change. This multi-year process is expected to conclude in 2027.
With other local Winn-Dixie locations becoming Aldi, like the Amelia Plaza Winn-Dixie in Fernandina Beach, rumors began to spread about the Callahan store turning into an Aldi.
According to an email from SEG’s media team, “At this time, our Winn-Dixie store, located at 450078 State Road 200 in Callahan, will continue normal business operations. We remain dedicated to serving our communities and invite local customers to continue shopping with us to find great savings, rewards and quality products.”
When reached for comment, the store manager declined to speak on the record. No permit applications or construction filings have been submitted to the Town of Callahan indicating a change to the grocery store.
