NCSO Excelsior Status

For the Record For the first time in its history, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office earned Excelsior Status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation and the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission.

Barnabas Center campaign meets initial milestone

Britney Fletcher WestNCR Reporter Barnabas Center has reached its initial fundraising goal for a new West Nassau County facility and seeks additional community support to expand the project’s services.
The annual Memorial Day Rod Run 4 Kidz, a mission of Callahan Methodist Church, raised $10,000 for Barnabas Center. The former caution light at Mickler Street and U.S. 301 in Callahan is gone. It was removed June 17 after it was damaged. It previously aided motorists coming from the west, alerting them that they were entering a small town with reduced speeds and cross traffic. Photo by Amanda Bishop

Britney Fletcher WestNCR Reporter The flashing caution light at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Mickler Street was removed and will not be replaced.According to officials with the Town of Callahan, the caution light was removed June 17 after it was damaged.

For the Record A reading of the Declaration of Independence occurs July 8 at 6 p.m. on the steps of the historic Nassau County Courthouse in downtown Fernandina Beach.The Amelia Island Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the reading. At 5:30 p.m.
