The Winn-Dixie grocery store in Callahan will close in mid-October as it begins its conversion to an ALDI store, ending years of speculation about the location’s future.
The Winn-Dixie at 450078 State Road 200 will close to begin the conversion process, confirmed Meredith Hurley, senior director of communications and community for The Winn-Dixie Company.
“We can confirm the Winn-Dixie grocery store located at 450078 State Road 200 in Callahan
will close in mid-October to begin its conversion to an ALDI store,” Hurley said late Wednesday afternoon.
According to Hurley, employees at the Callahan store have already been notified of the
upcoming closure. Winn-Dixie is working with ALDI to help ensure a smooth transition, and
current associates will have the first opportunity to apply for positions at the new ALDI store.
“We appreciate the continued support of our valued associates, loyal customers and
communities throughout this process,” Hurley said.
Hurley added that Winn-Dixie remains committed to serving customers throughout Florida and southern Georgia, with a continued focus on providing the quality, value and fresh offerings customers have come to expect.
The announcement comes after yearsof uncertainty surrounding the Callahan location
following the 2024 ALDI acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, the former parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket. While some Winn-Dixie stores have still been under the Winn-Dixie banner, others have been selected for conversion to ALDI as part of a multiyear transition.
ALDI has not announced an opening date for the new Callahan store.
