Renovations are underway at the West Nassau High School football and soccer field, part of more than $1.7 million in athletic facility upgrades approved by the Nassau County School Board Feb. 27. Of that amount, $1,328,070 was awarded to AstroTurf Corporation of Dalton, Ga.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office hosted its Safe Kids Academy at the NCSO Training Facility on Saturday. Nineteen youths participated in the one-day event, which taught children life-saving skills.

Kathy Thornton Community Newspapers, Inc.   The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office hosted its annual Sheriff’s Safe Kids Academy on Saturday at the NCSO Training Facility, offering local families a hands-on, educational experience focused on empowering children with critical safety knowledge.

County honors Powell

For the Record The Nassau County Commission honored Josh Powell June 18 for 20 years of service with the county. Hired June 13, 2005, Powell started as a custodian. He’s advanced through various jobs with the county and currently serves as a journeyman facilities technician.

K-Zone hosts camp

Taigen LeBel steps over the obstacle course Monday at the K-Zone Athletic Academy softball camp at West Nassau High School. The two-day camp was put on by Kelsey Sweatt, a D2 World Series finalist and Kenzie Woods, a former D1 collegiate softball player.

Anna Newhoff NCR Reporter   Callahan First Baptist Church breathes new life into a piece of local history with the recent purchase of the Brandies Avenue commercial buildings. The two-story buildings are the oldest brick buildings in Callahan.
Verizon currently assists customers in the parking lot of Callahan’s former Burger King. The wireless company will renovate the restaurant into a store. A new Burger King is planned north on U.S. 1 near Tractor Supply.

P&Z board approves Verizon’s site plan

Anna Newhoff NCR Reporter   Verizon renovations at the old Burger King will soon begin in Callahan.  Contractor Jeff Borden told the Callahan Planning and Zoning board Monday that the building’s interior will be completely demolished and the exterior will receive several updates.
