The Hilliard Middle-Senior High School cheerleaders made school history by placing second in the Game Day division at the Florida High School Athletic Association state championship Jan. 31. The team competed among Class 1A competition. Clearwater Central Catholic placed first, edging the Flashes out by just 3.9 points. Third place was Terry Parker High School. The Hilliard cheerleaders include, in the back row from left, Madison Hemingway, Chloe Rhoden, Merissa Loveland, Khloe Bruton; middle row, Ella Rau, Karson Brinson, Vera Musgrove, Halle Keene, Charlee, King, Coach Jennifer Keene; front row, Brogen Pinker, Kendall Dyal, Riley Beecher, and Kaylee Hobbs. Keene is in her second year as the varsity coach and also coached the middle school team that serves as the school’s junior varsity. “It’s been a lot of work, so it’s really nice to have some success on the competitive level and be able to proudly represent Hilliard like this for the first time ever and with such a young team,” Keene said. The varsity includes four juniors, five freshmen, and four eighth grade students.
