The Fernandina Beach Pirates struck down the Hilliard Flashes Aug. 22. The Flashes lost 49-6 with senior Camauri Bolden scoring the team’s only touchdown in a kickoff return.
“DJ Alderman and Camauri Bolden ran the ball well especially later on in the game,” Coach Matt Yancey said.
During the first quarter, freshman Clayton Floyd suffered a concussion after “he got tangled up,” with a Pirate Yancey said. Floyd is on the road to recovery.
“I spoke to his mom (Sunday) and he seems to be doing good,” Yancey said.
Senior Jake Crews, junior Nate Davis, and sophomore Tucker Williams each made five tackles throughout the game. Crews had three solo tackles and two assisted. Davis had five solo tackles and Williams had three solo tackles with two assisted.
Overall, Yancey believes the team
can do a few things to continue to push forward and get better.
“We just need to be more physical and get in better shape,” he said. “We kinda got down early and got a little shell-shocked and just kind of played out of character.”
