The Warriors took down the Hamilton County Trojans in a decisive manner 70-30 while celebrating homecoming Friday night.
Junior Avery Griffin led the scoring with three touchdowns while fellow junior Smo Green added two. Seniors Andi Ataiza, Kevin Carter and Skyler Freeman, junior Drake Cole, and freshman Cameron Johns each added a touchdown. Senior Gavin Velazquez was 8-for-8 on extra-point kicks.
Senior quarterback Pryce Arnold completed five passes for 160 yards while Freeman led the team in rushing with 168 yards. Green added 103 while Johns added 65 and Ataiza added 62. Griffin rushed for 40 yards.
Defensively, seniors Bryce Mangum and Hunter Gentry and sophomore Kayden Thompson each made a sack. The defense combined for four quarterback hurries, deflected four passes and recovered two fumbles. Junior Nate Batrous led the team with nine solo tackles and one assist while Gentry and his brother, junior Seth Gentry, each had six total tackles. Mangum added five total tackles.
The Warriors move to 5-0 on the season but travel to undefeated county foe Yulee Friday for a 7 p.m. game. Yulee had decisive wins against Union County, Clay, and McLaughlin, with a fought-for win over Charlton County.
West Nassau has also had wide point spreads against four of its opponents. Frederica Academy gave the Warriors a challenge, with West Nassau on top 14-7.
The Warriors will return to Callahan Sept. 26 for a game against the Fernandina Beach Pirates.
