The bright yellow “BEER SMOKE” sign at Safeway Discount Beverage in Callahan will soon come down after the store was found in violation of town signage regulations.
At Monday night’s Callahan Town Council meeting, Town Attorney Reba Pearce explained that the sign does not match the original permit approved by the town. The issue was originally scheduled to be addressed at the July 21 meeting, but after that meeting was canceled, town staff and Pearce met privately with the store owner and the owner’s attorney.
“The store agreed to abide by the initial permit that was submitted – that is not the sign that’s currently up there,” Mayor Randy Knagge said. “They were given 21 days to remedy that, mainly because their contractor is having some health issues. We should see the change within the next two weeks … and that should match what was originally in the sign permit.”
