For the Record
St. George Elementary School received top state honors in literacy and math.
The school has been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as a Literacy Leader School and a Math Leader School for third, fourth and fifth grades.
On Feb. 13, Georgia State Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods visited SGES to present these prestigious honors, recognizing the school’s educators for their exceptional achievement and growth in both literacy and math.
The school was awarded the Literacy Leader banner for increasing the number of students reading at or above grade level and the Math Leader recognition for outstanding progress in math proficiency based on the 2023-24 Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMAS).
Woods shared that while earning this recognition for one grade level is an incredible accomplishment, achieving it for three grade levels in both reading and math is truly extraordinary. In fact, St. George Elementary is the only elementary school in the entire state of Georgia to receive both the Literacy Leader and Math Leader banners for three grade levels.
School administration noted, “This is a monumental achievement that reflects the dedication of our teachers, the determination of our students, and the unwavering support from our families and community. Together, we are setting the bar high for academic excellence.”
