Families are invited to celebrate the start of summer at the West Nassau High School chapter of Future Farmers of America’s kickoff event, featuring a petting zoo and vendor market. Designed to introduce children to agriculture, the event also raises funds for the club’s annual trip to the state convention.
Admission to the petting zoo requires a $5 donation. Entry to the vendor market is free.
“The animals at the petting zoo will be from the students personally,” FFA President Ty Wainwright said. “We have a variety of bunnies and goats as well as a duck, cow, and a horse.”
In addition to using their pets, the FFA members have also contributed through advertising and event setup.
The vendor market will feature around 20 vendors, along with a food truck and a hot dog cart.
In addition to the petting zoo, kids can also enjoy a group book reading.
“FFA wants to involve kids more in our program,” Wainwright said.
The kickoff will be at the Northeast Florida Fairgrounds May 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“The community has supported the club through the fair and participation,” Wainwright said. “The fair has generously allowed us to use their campus for the event.”
