Station 10 officially opened May 7.To honor the opening, the county held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the station, located at 75822 Edwards Road, Yulee. The station is in District 5, Commissioner Klynt Farmer’s district.
“This state-of-the-art facility will provide essential resources and support for both sides of the county and is a testament to the Nassau County Board of Commissioners’ unwavering dedication to the great residents and family that we all serve daily,” Farmer said at the ribbon cutting. “Public safety is so much more than just a job, it’s a calling.”
The station began operations April 16. The 8,453 square-feet facility includes three bays with an engine, rescue unit and tanker; as well as 11 sleeping quarters, four and a half bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen and an exercise room.
Station 10 was built through a public-private partnership between the county and GreenPointe Holdings, LLC, the developer for Tributary.
Mike Taylor, president of GreenPointe, also spoke at the ribbon cutting, thanking county staff and leaders for their support.
Chief Brady Rigdon led the ribbon cutting, introducing speakers and thanking county leaders, staff and GreenPointe for their work on the project.
In an April media release announcing the ribbon cutting, the county quoted Rigdon. “We are very excited about the opening of a brand new Fire Station 10. This addition is a tremendous improvement, not only to the fire rescue department, but also for the citizens who live in the immediate area. The opening of this station will greatly improve response times for many incidents, allowing us to arrive sooner and to mitigate the situation faster.”
Station 10 is one of three fire stations that have broken ground in the last year, including Station 70 on Nassauville Road in Fernandina Beach and Station 90 on County Road 2 in Hilliard. Both are currently under construction.
The county has eight fire stations in operation.
