Hilliard author Lori Scarborough inspires readers to gain a better understanding of God’s love. She recently self-published “Love Leads Us Home” which highlights the “Scarlet Thread” throughout the Bible, the spoken word of Jesus Christ published in red ink.
“I would challenge people to read it and interpret it for themselves,” said Scarborough. “I believe the Bible may speak to them differently based on their own experiences.”
Scarborough started writing as a teenager but began publicly writing in her blog “The Scarlet Thread” in 2010. “Love Leads Us Home” began on her blog, transitioning into a book in 2014. She continued writing over the past decade in times she needed the reminder of God’s love.
“During those struggles, I would be like OK, it’s time to get myself centered and grounded” Scarborough said. “It helped me through the hard times.”
Scarborough worked in health care and human resources for more than 40 years and has two sons.
During her own personal struggles, Scarborough was reminded of how much God loves her and the importance of incorporating his love into her own personal life.
“The Bible does instruct us to love our neighbor as ourselves, which means we have to love ourselves.”
Scarborough’s inspiration stems from questioning the love she has received throughout her life. While searching for answers, she remembered that true love comes from the Bible, originating from God. These profound questions ultimately led her to study the concept of love throughout the Bible.
“The very first time love is mentioned, the four-letter word, it is about manipulation and greed,” said Scarborough. “It wasn’t about anything warm and fuzzy at all, so that kind of intrigued me.”
When following the “Scarlet Thread” through the Bible, Scarborough made her own interpretations from the King James Version, including both the Old Testament and New.
Scarborough continues to write and plans to publish another book in the near future, which will tell story of her adoptive mother, her birth mother, and herself.
