Christmas light shows shine bright throughout western Nassau this holiday season.
Local families showcase their Christmas spirit with decorations and light shows that can be seen from miles away.
Jennifer Temple and her family started with regular Christmas decorations after moving to Florida in 2020.
“Our home now had a good amount of space. We started getting more lawn decorations, but then decided making a light show would be better to add to our home at the holidays,” Temple said.
The family started putting on a light show last year, and this year’s show features some changes from the previous display.
“We have added more lights to our home, a mega tree that is synchronized to the songs and also shows pictures of Christmas characters and from movies,” Temple said. “This year, we also added light sticks that can be found throughout the lawn.”
These changes will continue in future shows, including another light show that the family puts on annually.
“We plan to add to the show every year,” Temple said. “One of our biggest changes was adding a light show to our Halloween display. We now have a music and light show at Halloween and Christmas.”
The light show is a tradition that the Temples began with their children, getting the whole family into the Christmas spirit.
“The kids have all been involved with the decorating, light programming, and inflatable decorations in the yard,” Temple said.
The light show isn’t just something the family gets to experience; it’s something they get to share.
“Our neighbors love the show and like to watch as we put everything out. Many stop by to say they can’t wait to see it,” Temple said.
The family’s nightly show is located at 55371 Bear Run Road, Callahan. The show began Dec. 1 and will be up until Jan. 3. However, if viewers can’t see the show in person, the family also has a YouTube channel. Search for Callahan Lights on YouTube.
Other local light shows include one in Bryceville and another in Hilliard.
The Bryceville show is put on by the Silcox family on U.S. 301 just north of Nassau County Fire Rescue Station 60. It started in 2010, with more added yearly. Their biggest addition is a 28-foot-tall mega tree with 4,000 pixels.
The Hilliard light show can be found on Georgia Street, with the Lyons family home decorated with a yard full of lights.
These light show displays not only bring the community together, but they also add a little extra holiday excitement to the western Nassau area.
“It’s our hope that we bring joy to those who visit us to see the lights,” Temple said. “I love having the families get excited to hear the different songs and see the new decorations and designs every year.”
