A Hilliard home caught fire Oct. 24.
According to Nassau County Fire Chief Brady Rigdon, the blaze began around 7:49 a.m. at 28266 Lake Hampton Road. The cause of the fire was determined as stove top cooking. No one was injured, but the home sustained significant fire and smoke damage.
About 30 Nassau County Fire Rescue personnel arrived on scene. It took firefighters around 20 minutes to contain the fire with overhaul continuing afterward. No nearby structures were damaged by the fire.
Rigdon estimated the damage at roughly $350,000 to the structure and about $100,000 to the home’s contents, though he noted the total cost could end up higher or lower once assessments are complete.
