The community rose to the occasion to support a Hilliard family whose home was destroyed by fire Dec. 5.
The fire at 28247 Pike Road displaced two male adults and a child who will celebrate her 11th birthday Monday.
Nassau County Fire Rescue Professionals Local 3101 shared on social media that the first responders rallied to continue to assist the family after the flames were extinguished.
In a Facebook post, Local 3101 shared, “Our members have been able to raise a substantial amount of money to purchase clothing and other personal items for the family. When we learned that a sweet little girl named Lexi would not be having a Christmas this year, our members immediately pulled together to make sure she will have a wonderful Christmas filled with love and surprises.”
Neighbors are accepting clothing donations for the family and a GoFundMe account was created. Clothing donations should be dropped off at 28103 Pike Road, Hilliard, the first trailer on the right after passing the mailboxes.
Clothing needs include men’s shirts in size extra-large for the two males. One person wears size 34x30 pants, while the other is in size 36x32. Men’s shoes in sizes 8.5 and 13 are needed.
The young girl wears size 14 in clothing and a size 8 shoe. She also loves “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Lilo and Stitch.”
