A southern delicacy found a permanent home in Callahan.
Krackers Boiled Peanuts started nearly four years ago by Tiffany and Levi Holton under a little yellow tent with two 30-quart pots of boiled peanuts. Since then, the business has grown steadily, expanding both its capacity and its flavor lineup. With more than 20 flavors to offer customers, there is a peanut flavor for almost everyone.
“We didn’t want to stop at ‘just salty,’” Tiffany Holton said. “Our customers kept asking for something new, so we started experimenting. Now we’ve got everything from dill pickle ranch to JP-BBQ.”
They’ve since upgraded to four 150-quart pots all filled peanuts from Wingfield Farm in North Carolina. Each batch takes eight to 10 hours to simmer until the peanuts are tender.
“They’re fresh, big, and perfect for boiling,” Holton said.
In July, Krackers found its permanent home at 618250 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Callahan, next to Sweet as Cyn Coffee House and Donuts. The storefront is open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until sellout, which usually happens fast.
“We typically start with about 1,200 pounds every weekend, and most weekends they’re gone within a few hours,” Holton said.
The new location offers more than just peanuts. Krackers Boiled Peanuts stand and farmers market has fresh produce and local vendors, giving the store a small-town feel.
“We wanted a space where folks could not only get their favorite peanuts but also shop fresh, local, and handmade goods from talented small businesses,” Holton said.
Supporting other small businesses is something that is very important to her.
“Small businesses grow stronger together,” she said. “Supporting each other builds a market that customers love and keeps the local economy thriving.”
Alongside fresh produce, the market features local vendors such as Alpine Body Care, Hot Mess Homegoods, Honeysuckle Hideaway, Lovett Landing Farms, Weathered Shed Florals, Loblolly acres, and Strings & Things.
While Holton now has the chance to support others, she hasn’t forgotten the community support that helped her business grow.
“From day one, our community has shown up rain or shine, spread the word, and cheered us on,” Holton said.
With business booming, Holton is cooking up some fresh ideas for seasons ahead.
“We’ve got some new exciting peanut flavors in the works, new produce partnerships, and a few surprise vendors and events coming for both fall and winter,” she said.
Now with a new permanent storefront and flavors galore, Krackers is set to continue serving up the signature southern snack to the community.
