A 13-year-old Yulee Middle School student was arrested Aug. 19 with charges stemming from a cyberbullying investigation.
Re’von Mo’rie Little of Yulee was charged with two felonies, electronic threats to kill and aggravated stalking according to a press release from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
At a press conference held Aug. 20, Sheriff Bill Leeper joined the victim, Aaron Wiese, and his mother, Amy Wiese, to share details of the case and the impact of cyberbullying.
“I know some of those things she said on the account were directed towards me, but the fact that she’d even think about using me just makes me feel awful,” Aaron Wiese said.
His mother spoke about why she chooses not to allow her son onto these platforms.
“We are not the popular parents,” Amy Wiese said. “Everything is monitored because giving your child, especially a young teenager, any kind of unlimited access with a phone or internet or these social media platforms and not giving them boundaries or monitoring what they’re doing, you have no real idea on what’s going on.”
According to the press release, the investigation began Aug. 1, after deputies responded to a juvenile victim’s home after the child’s parents discovered a life-threatening post on TikTok directed at their child. The account appeared to belong to former YMS student Aaron Wiese, 13, displaying both his picture and the YMS logo.
Due to the threatening post, the concerned parents called the NCSO and YMS saying they planned to keep their children home on the first day of school.
The school resource officer at YMS set up a meeting with Wiese and his parents. During the meeting, the resource officer learned that Wiese’s parents have parental controls in place to prevent the child from downloading and using social media. His parents also reported the TikTok account, which was removed. The next day, a second account was created using Wiese’s information without his permission.
On Aug. 13, the resource officer received a tip identifying the suspect as Little. After being interviewed by investigators, a forensic search of Little’s phone revealed the profile picture and other images linked to the TikTok accounts.
At the press conference, Leeper shared a portion of a post from Aug. 11, the first day of school.
“You all shall pay. You all will pay the price. You’re all in so much trouble. You’ll suffer and feel my wrath for what you all did.”
Leeper continued, “I know where you all live, let the games begin, and you will feel a great amount of pain. I don’t want to kill you, not yet. That would waste all the care I put into to this. The measurements, the precision, the practice. But you, you’ll be perfect.
“I’ve traced your body a thousand times in my mind, but I’ll peel you open, it won’t be torture, it will be art.”
Little was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center Aug. 19.
“No matter your age, threats of this nature come with serious consequences,” Leeper said. “Not only did this child make disturbing threats, but she did so using the identity of another student, whose reputation was unfairly damaged in the process.
“Let this serve as a reminder for parents to closely monitor their child’s activity on any device.”
