James Leroy Turner, Sr.
James Leroy Turner, Sr., 91, of Callahan, Fla. went home to be with the Lord Jan. 30, 2017.
James was born Oct. 30, 1925 in Ceresco, Neb. He was a member of the ADA – American Dairymen’s Association. He was an active member of Lannie Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. James was a man of talent when it came to woodworking. He built furniture, swings, gliders and tables beautifully for his business, Jim’s Custom Woodshop.
His earlier years included working as a dairy farmer, building single family and multi-family homes for Turner Enterprise, hauling silica sand in dump trucks and selling real estate for Willis Turner Agency. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 71 years, Laverne Turner; sons, James (Rhonda) Turner, Jr. and Donald Turner; daughter, Dianne (Mel) Turner; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 in the Nassau Funeral Home Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 beginning at 11 a.m. in the Nassau Funeral Home chapel with pastors Buddy Wimberly and Ken Barney officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Lannie Road Baptist Church or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
