A 16-year-old Bryce-ville teen is in critical condition following a Sunday afternoon accident.
Jonathan Brown was riding a Mongoose bicycle southbound on County Road 121 when he attempted to turn left onto Batey Lane without signaling at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Jonathan Douglas, 19, of Hilliard, was behind Brown, driving a 2007 Chevy pickup. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Douglas applied the brakes, but was traveling too fast to avoid hitting Brown.
Brown was thrown from his bike, landing in the roadway. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered a head injury. Nassau County Fire Rescue personnel transported him to Shands Jacksonville, where he was in critical condition Monday afternoon.
Douglas had one passenger in his vehicle, Tyler Brown, 17, of Bryceville. The report does not indicate whether he is related to the cyclist.
